Communication aids can be funded under the following categories in your NDIS plan:

Core Supports budget: Consumables

 

You can use this category to pay for simple, non-electronic communication aids that cost below $1,500, such as:

• Communication Books (up to 20 pages)

• Visual Schedules

• About Me books

• Communication Dictionaries, etc

This funding does not require a submitted quote, and is flexible to use. Although this funding could be used to pay for PODD books, they fit better under the next category.

Capital Supports budget: Assistive Technology

 

You can use this category to purchase more complex, highly customised communication aids, such as PODD communication books. PODD books would fall under Level 1 & 2 (Low Cost Assistive Technology - up to $1,500). Work with your Speech Pathologist to identify whether a PODD book is suitable, and how to customise it for your needs. 

 

This funding does not require the submission of a quote.
